Plans and limits

How TopStats pricing works, what the free tier includes, and how retention and event volume shape a paid workspace.

TopStats does not sell fixed "plans" with feature checklists. Pricing is plan-less and usage-based: you choose how many events you expect to send each month and how long you want to keep your data (retention), and the price scales continuously with both. There is no "Pro" tier that unlocks funnels or a "Business" tier that unlocks alerts. There are only two states, free and paid, and every paid workspace gets the same thing: every feature and unlimited team members, whatever you spend.

Two knobs, one price

The only things that move your price are monthly event volume and retention. More events or a longer retention window cost more; fewer events or a shorter window cost less. Spending more never unlocks extra features, it only buys headroom.

FeaturesEverything except the five belowAll

The free tier is a real, complete workspace, not a trial. Every widget type, every chart, alerts, digests, annotations, external sources, status pages, stat badges, and sharing and embedding all work on free exactly as they do on paid. Five features are the exception.

What needs a paid workspace

These five features require a paid workspace:

On a free workspace they are hidden from the navigation, and calling their endpoints directly returns a 402 with the message Upgrade to a paid plan to use this feature.

This is the only feature difference

Free and paid differ in exactly two ways: the volume limits in the table above, and these five features. There is nothing else a paid workspace can do that a free one cannot.

The free monthly cap

The free tier includes 2,000,000 events per month, and that number is a hard cap. Once you reach it, ingest stops accepting new events: a POST https://topstats.gg/v1/events call returns 402 until the next monthly cycle, or until you upgrade. Nothing you already sent is lost; you just cannot add more that month.

Free is a wall, paid is a meter

On the free tier, hitting the cap rejects further events (you get a 402). On a paid workspace, event volume is metered, not rejected: events keep flowing past your chosen level and the extra usage is simply counted toward what you pay. Paid workspaces never lose data to a cap at ingest time.

For example, if you run a game that emits a player_join event every time someone logs in and a couple of match_end events per session, a busy weekend could push you past two million events quickly. On free, the events after the cap would be turned away with a 402; on paid, they would keep landing and show up in your dashboards, and your usage for the month would tick up.

Data retention

Retention is how long TopStats keeps your events available to query. It is not the same thing as the Retention widget, which measures whether people come back. Here, retention just means: how far back in time your dashboards, the Events stream, and Actors can look.

The free tier keeps 30 days of data. Paid workspaces let you pick a longer window, anywhere from 30 days up to 2 years. A longer window is useful when you want to compare this quarter to last quarter, chart a full year of growth, or keep a compliance trail; a shorter window keeps costs down when you only ever look at recent activity.

Retention presets

When you set retention on a paid workspace, you pick from these presets:

PresetLength
30 days1 month
3 months~90 days
6 months~180 days
1 year365 days
2 years730 days

Choosing a longer preset raises your price; choosing a shorter one lowers it, along with your monthly event volume being the other factor.

The white label add-on

White label is the one thing you buy separately rather than by turning a knob. It is a flat 10 EUR per month on top of whatever your usage costs, and it does not change with event volume or retention.

It is not restricted to paid workspaces: a free workspace can buy the add-on on its own. Only a workspace Owner with a verified email address can add or remove it.
